Dr. Jeremy Marriott is a clinical psychologist associated with Curtin University in Perth, Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Disability Studies), Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Honours), Master of Psychology (Clinical), and Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology, all obtained from Curtin University. During his doctoral program in the School of Psychology and Speech Pathology within the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Marriott conducted pioneering research examining the impact of classical music on arousal levels and self-injurious behaviours in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. This study, which involved physiological measurements of arousal, demonstrated that exposure to specifically selected classical music recordings significantly lowered stress indicators in the participants. Notably, world-renowned pianist David Helfgott contributed by personally selecting and recording the musical pieces used in the experiment, enhancing the project's profile and potential applicability. Dr. Marriott's work built upon over a decade of hands-on experience working with children on the autism spectrum, emphasizing non-pharmacological interventions for anxiety management. His research was presented in academic forums, including discussions on musical treatments for child anxiety in Asperger's disorder.
In addition to his research, Dr. Marriott contributed to education at Curtin University as a lecturer in the Abnormal Psychology unit (PSY327), delivering specialized content on autism spectrum disorder. He acted as the primary contact person for a registered clinical trial (ACTRN12611001064998) focused on self-injurious behaviour. Among his academic honors, he received the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) to support his postgraduate studies. Currently, Dr. Marriott serves as Fitness Instructor in the Curtin Sport and Recreation section, under Accommodation and Community Services in the Office of Corporate, located in Building 401 (Allied Health), Room 220. As a fully registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), he is an endorsed diagnostician for autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Marriott offers person-centered clinical psychology services addressing treatment and diagnostic complexity, including individual and family consultations, Positive Behaviour Support, and comprehensive psychometric assessments for clients of all ages with autism spectrum disorder.
