Professor Jenny Sim is Professor and Head of the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences in the School of Primary and Allied Health Care, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. She holds a PhD in Medical Radiations from RMIT University on continuing professional development in Medical Radiation Science towards reflective practice in cyberspace, a Master of Science in Medical Imaging Technology from Curtin University on profiles of Medical Radiation Science practitioners as lifelong learners, MSc (Research), Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Imaging (Administration), Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Imaging (CT/MRI), and Diploma of the College of Radiographers (DCR) in Radiography. Since joining Monash University in 1999, she has provided academic leadership, set strategic directions, and engaged industry stakeholders to achieve quality education outcomes in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences. With extensive teaching experience, she delivers undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervises research students, and facilitates learning through diverse methods including simulated and online approaches to support student transition to professional practice.
Jenny Sim's research platform is transformative learning in Medical Imaging, promoting cognitive competencies, perspective transformation, and leadership capacity via innovative curricula design that fosters critical thinking, clinical reasoning, decisive judgment, and reflective practice for safe, high-quality imaging care. Her research themes include clinical reasoning, communication in medical imaging, curricula design, reflective practice, simulated learning, online learning, continuing professional development, lifelong learning, student-centred learning, and communities of practice. Key publications encompass 'University and workplace cultures: their impact on the development of lifelong learners' (2003), 'A narrative review of current and emerging MRI safety issues: what radiographers need to know' (2022), 'Screen-based digital learning methods in radiation oncology and medical imaging education during COVID-19' (2022), 'A phenomenological study investigating experiences of student learning using immersive virtual reality for pre-registration computed tomography' (2022), 'Risk–benefit analysis of a multi-site radiographer comment model for emergency departments' (2025), and 'Stabilised hyaluronic acid gel marker versus surgical clips for tumour bed delineation in breast cancer radiotherapy using MRI-simulation' (2025). She holds appointments as Visiting Professor and Honorary Advisor to Graduate Studies in Diagnostic Radiography (Sonography) at Singapore Institute of Technology, Associate Professor at University of Auckland, and Visiting Associate Professor at University of Johannesburg. Professor Sim serves on the 2024-2025 Education Steering Committee of the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists and received the People's Choice Award in Medical Imaging at the ASMIRT/NZIMRT 2025 conference.
