Dr Jennifer Harrison is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Business, Law and Arts at Southern Cross University, with over 20 years of experience in higher education. She holds a Bachelor of Business (Honours I with Distinction and University Medal) from Southern Cross University and a PhD from the University of New England. Prior to her academic career, she worked in accounting positions within the advertising industry. At Southern Cross University, Dr Harrison has held key leadership roles, including Department Head for Accounting, Finance and Quantitative Methods, School Director of Higher Degrees by Research Training, coordinator of MBA, MPA, and Honours courses, and overseer of the School's online offerings through SCU Online. Her extensive contributions to teaching and program development underscore her commitment to excellence in business education.
Dr Harrison's academic interests centre on financial literacy, financial well-being, financial advisor anxiety, and mathematics anxiety in the context of accounting and finance education. She has produced research publications in accounting, finance, strategy, management, entrepreneurship, and marketing. As a supervisor, she has mentored five PhD students, six DBA candidates, and three PhD qualifiers to completion, including the winner of the 2015 Meredith Prize for the most outstanding DBA thesis. She teaches a range of subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including business finance, research and quantitative methods, introductory accounting, and managerial economics. In recognition of her teaching prowess, she received the 2021 Southern Cross University Inspiring Educator award. Dr Harrison is a member of the university's ZeroWaste research cluster, with her work contributing to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. She also engages in community service as a voluntary board member for not-for-profit organisations and serves as Southern Cross University's academic representative on the UniSuper Consultative Committee.
