Jenine Upritchard serves as the Compliance Manager at the Sir John Walsh Research Institute within the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Otago. With qualifications including a BSc and MSc, she has contributed to research in oral microbiology, focusing on biofilms, Candida species, and antimicrobial properties relevant to dental applications. Her work supports both laboratory safety and scientific investigations in the dental field.
Upritchard has co-authored several publications, including 'Antibacterial properties of root canal lubricants: A comparison with commonly used irrigants' in the Australian Endodontic Journal (2014) with Samantha Wong, Lance Mundy, Nicholas Chandler, David Purton, and Geoffrey Tompkins; 'Multi-Locus Next-Generation Sequence Typing of DNA Recovered from Candida albicans and Candida glabrata Infected Root Canals' in Frontiers in Microbiology (2018); 'Distribution of mutations distinguishing the most prevalent genotypic groups of the oral Candida albicans isolates in a New Zealand population' in Infection, Genetics and Evolution (2009) with Ningxin Zhang, Barbara R. Holland, Lauren E. Fenton, Martin M. Ferguson, Richard D. Cannon, and Jan Schmid; and 'Antifungal Saponins from Paris polyphylla Smith' with Dawei Deng, Denis R. Lauren, Janine M. Cooney, Dwayne J. Jensen, and Kirstin V. Wurms. In 2020, she received the University of Otago Health, Safety and Well-Being Award (Individual) for her health and safety planning across dentistry facilities, including clinical services buildings, research laboratories, and containment areas. Her efforts encompassed emergency evacuations, chemical storage, first aid equipment placement, and sharps kits, resulting in low incident rates and commendation in audits. Upritchard has also advised postgraduate students, such as YJA Kim's Master of Health Sciences thesis on biofilm adhesion in 2014, integrating compliance oversight with research support at the Faculty of Dentistry.
