Dr. Jeevitha Mariapun is a senior lecturer in Public Health at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia, a position she has held since 2019. She earned a PhD in Public Health and Health Systems from Universiti Malaya, with her doctoral thesis examining socioeconomic gradients of various indicators of population health in Malaysia, and an MSc in Medical Statistics with specialisation in Modern Epidemiology from the University of Leicester, UK. Prior to Monash, she completed a research internship and pursued her PhD on scholarship at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. Since 2013, she has taught Evidence-Based Medicine and biostatistics to medical students while providing statistical support to clinicians and postgraduate students. At Monash University Malaysia, she serves as local teaching lead for the Evidence-Based Clinical Practice module and academic coordinator for the Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) and MD Scholarly Intensive Placement programmes. She is also a statistical consultant at the school and an associate member of the Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Practice at the University of Malaya.
Dr. Mariapun's research focuses on disease prevention and management of non-communicable diseases, social and behavioural epidemiology, NCD prevention and control, epidemiology, lifestyle behaviours, social determinants of health, and biostatistics. As Chief Investigator, she contributes to projects such as 'Advancing Healthcare Transformation in Malaysia: A Multi-stakeholder Partnership for Change' (2025-2026), 'Elucidating the role of Streptomyces as probiotic in Vibrio parahaemolyticus-infected zebrafish as a model for sustainable aquafarming' (2024-2026), and 'Innovating Behaviour and Health Surveillance for Cardiovascular Diseases Prevention in Malaysia' (2020-2022). Key publications include 'Accelerometer-measured 24-hour movement behaviours over 7 days in Malaysian children and adolescents: A cross-sectional study' (2024, PLOS ONE), 'Dietary intake, obesity, and metabolic risk factors among children and adolescents in the SEACO-CH20 cross-sectional study' (2024, Scientific Reports), 'Maternal height, and ethnicity and birth weight: A retrospective cohort study of uncomplicated term vaginal deliveries in Malaysia' (2024, Birth), and 'Clinical characteristics and outcomes of critically ill coronavirus disease 2019 patients in Malaysia during the first wave: A multi-center observational study (COVIDICU-MY)' (2023, Frontiers in Medicine). She has received the Pro Vice-Chancellor's Commendation for Excellence in Education (Teaching Excellence) (2024), Pro-vice Chancellor Award for Excellence in Education Innovation (2020), and Early Career Research Grant (2020). Dr. Mariapun serves as a peer reviewer for BMC Public Health, BMC Health Services Research, and Progress in Microbes and Molecular Biology.
