Dr. Jie (Jeanne) Huang is Professor of Comparative and Private International Law at the University of Sydney Law School, where she also holds the position of Associate Dean (Postgraduate Research). She earned her LLB and LLM from Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE) and her SJD from Duke University School of Law. Huang's research focuses on private international law, conflict of laws, Chinese law, cross-border digital trade and e-commerce regulations, and international traceability law. Her work addresses complex legal challenges in global trade, data governance, and sustainable supply chains, drawing on her expertise in comparative perspectives.
Professor Huang has an extensive publication record in prestigious journals, including 'Consumer-Oriented Unilateralism in China's E-Commerce Trade' in the Journal of International Economic Law (2021), 'Conflicting Declarations Under the Hague Service Convention Amid the Russo-Ukrainian War: Dilemmas and Preliminary Solutions' in the American Journal of International Law (2022), 'The 2024 New Chinese Civil Procedure Law' (2023), 'The Rise of Data Property Rights in China: How Does It Compare with the EU Data Act and What Does It Mean for Cross-Border Data Flows?' (2024), and contributions to topics such as China's foreign exchange regulations and illegality in private international law. She led the United Nations white paper 'Tracking the Clean Energy Supply Chain' (2025), providing legal groundwork for due diligence across borders. Huang's contributions have earned her the 2022 SOAR Prize from the University of Sydney and the First Prize of Excellent Scholarship from the China Society of Private International Law (2015). As Co-Chair of the American Society of International Law Private International Law Interest Group, she influences international legal discourse and participates in UNECE-UN/CEFACT projects on conflict of laws and traceability. At the Law School, she teaches and supervises in her specialized areas.
