Dr. Jarrah Mahmood Al Zu'Bi is a scholar and practitioner specializing in water resources management and environmental analysis. He obtained his initial degree in Mechanical Engineering, an MA in Economics from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, and a PhD from the University of New England in Australia. His doctoral research, documented in the thesis 'Using spatial analyses tools to study the impact of changing demographics, agricultural extents and urban growth on water quality and availability in the Amman-Zarqa basin, Jordan,' utilized spatial analysis methods to examine the effects of urbanization and demographic shifts on water resources in Jordan.
In his academic career, Dr. Al Zu'Bi served as Assistant Professor at the University of Jordan and Albalqa Applied University, delivering lectures and supervising postgraduate students. He was designated as an External Postgraduate Supervisor by the University of New England to guide PhD candidates. His academic interests encompass water resources from harvesting through management, water governance, integrity protocols, transboundary water management, and the integration of GIS and remote sensing technologies. He has produced 18 scientific papers, three book chapters, numerous short communications, and technical notes. Dr. Al Zu'Bi acts as a reviewer for five international journals and created instructional materials for courses on water governance and integrity within the Integrated Water Resources Management postgraduate program jointly run by Cologne University and the University of Jordan.
Dr. Al Zu'Bi's professional trajectory includes positions as a maintenance engineer with the Royal Maintenance Directorate of the Jordan Armed Forces, Head of Human Resources at the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau, and Head of Environmental Protection at the Royal Directorate for Environment Protection (RANGERS). At the Arab Countries Water Utilities Association, he advised the Secretary General, managed projects including the MDG+ initiative tracking water and sanitation metrics across Arab nations, water integrity evaluations, operational benchmarking, and regulatory enhancements for wastewater discharge. Presently, he is Senior Manager at the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). Holding certifications as Trainer of Trainers in Water Integrity and Governance, and International Trainer for Leaders for Excellence from the European Foundation for Quality Management, he has led assessments, training, and juries for excellence initiatives in Jordan and the UAE, such as the King Abdullah II Center for Excellence and Dubai Government Excellence Program. He participates in organizations like the Jordan Quality Society and Jordan Remote Sensing and GIS Society, and contributes to national panels on environmental auditing and higher education quality assurance.
