Rate My Professor Jamille Pinheiro Dias

Dr. Jamille Pinheiro Dias is a Senior Lecturer in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and Director of the Centre of Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) at the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies, University of London’s School of Advanced Study. She also serves as Co-Director of the Environmental Humanities Research Hub. Her academic background includes a PhD in English from the Department of Modern Languages at the University of São Paulo, where she later held a postdoctoral fellowship. She has served as a visiting researcher in Iberian and Latin American Cultures at Stanford University and as a teaching assistant at the Institute of Brazilian Studies at the University of São Paulo.

Dr. Pinheiro Dias’s research focuses on twentieth- and twenty-first-century cultural histories, literatures, and visual cultures of Latin America, with particular emphasis on Brazil, environmental issues, Amazonian cultural production, Indigenous arts, and translation studies. Prior to her current role, she worked as a Research Associate at the University of Manchester on the Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project Cultures of Anti-Racism in Latin America. She has held positions as a Craig M. Cogut Visiting Professor at Brown University’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and as a von der Heyden Fellow and affiliate researcher at Duke University’s Amazon Lab, as well as an affiliate at the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and collaborator with the Brazil LAB at Princeton University. She is also an accomplished translator specializing in the humanities and social sciences.
