Dr. James Earnest serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Management and Marketing within the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University. He teaches courses including Risk Management (MGMT2012), Leadership in Crisis and Change (MGMT6070), and professional development programs such as Disruption to Delivery: Supply Chain Crisis Management and Crisis Leadership. With over three decades of combined practitioner and academic experience, Earnest describes himself as a 'pracademic' and senior global consultant specializing in procurement, logistics, contracts, and project management. His career spans public and private sectors across diverse industries, including manufacturing, housing, education, healthcare, utilities, oil and gas (downstream), mining, and humanitarian aid with UN agencies and NGOs. He has directed project management, logistics, procurement, and supply chain operations in these fields and worked in post-conflict countries for a decade. Earnest is a member of the MBA and Executive Education Advisory Board at Curtin University, contributing his expertise in supply chain management, operations, and risk management.
Earnest holds a PhD in post-conflict reconstruction in Kosovo, aligning with his research interests in sustainable project management, project management in war-torn societies, supply chain optimization, and operations in challenging environments. His publications include 'Managing projects in war-torn societies: A case study from Kosovo principles, practices and challenges of project management in conflict zones' (2019), 'We have to integrate to engage in change: exploring sustainable project management' (2019), 'Post-conflict reconstruction: a case study in Kosovo' (2015), 'Developing Project Quality Management Plans' (2013, ANZAM conference), and 'Guidelines for conducting rapid participatory appraisals of health in post-conflict settings' (2006, with E. Pepall and R.W. James). Recent works feature co-authorship on 'Sustainable Supply Chain Management and Performance' (2025) and 'Market performance and social sustainability practices' (2024). With 38 citations on ResearchGate, his scholarship impacts project management in conflict and sustainability contexts.
