Dr Jackie Liu is a lecturer and researcher in accounting in the Faculty of Business, Law and Arts at Southern Cross University. She earned her PhD and Graduate Certificate in Management from the University of New England. Liu has pursued an academic career since 1992, serving at institutions including the University of Adelaide and the University of New England before joining the School of Business and Tourism at Southern Cross University in February 2009. A Certified Practising Accountant (CPA Australia, member since 2003) and a Chartered Accountant (CAANZ, member since 2008), she actively supervises postgraduate research students, having successfully completed supervision of two PhD students, one Master of Business by Research student, and three Honours students. Her teaching portfolio spans a broad array of subjects, including Management Accounting, Advanced Management Accounting, Auditing, Financial Reporting, Company and Financial Reporting, Professional Auditing, Corporate Governance, Business Accounting, and Financial Information for Decision Making.
Liu's research specializations include securities market supervision, carbon emissions, corporate governance, corporate reporting, and earnings management. She has published extensively in international refereed journals, edited books, and conference proceedings. Notable publications include 'Carbon emissions and the cost of capital: Australian evidence' (with Y. Li and I. Eddie, Review of Accounting and Finance, 2014), 'Legitimacy and corporate governance determinants of executives' remuneration disclosures' (with D. Taylor, Corporate Governance: The international journal of business in society, 2008), 'Board monitoring, management contracting and earnings management: an evidence from ASX listed companies' (International Journal of Economics and Finance, 2012), 'Board committees and earnings management' (with K. Harris and N. Omar, Corporate Board: role, duties and composition, 2013), 'Determinants of disclosures of A-, B- and H-share companies' (with I. A. Eddie, Asian Review of Accounting, 2007), and 'Share types and earnings management: evidence from Chinese listed companies' (with Y. Li and I. Eddie, Corporate Ownership & Control, 2011). Her scholarship contributes to understanding corporate accountability and governance mechanisms in Australian and international contexts.
