Irtishad Ahmad, Professor Emeritus at Florida International University’s College of Engineering and Computing in the Moss School of Construction, is a distinguished scholar in Property and Construction with a specialization in Construction Engineering and Management. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1988 and holds Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure as well as Fellow status in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). During his tenure at FIU, Ahmad served as Chair of the Department of Construction Management, Director of the OHL School of Construction—later renamed the Moss School of Construction—and Editor-in-Chief of the ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering until 2009.
Ahmad’s academic interests center on digital technologies in construction, including information and communication technology (ICT) integration, building information modeling (BIM) for sustainable design and LEED rating analysis, integrated project delivery (IPD), modular construction versus conventional methods, bidding and decision-support systems, risk management, sustainability, resilience in infrastructure such as water distribution systems, and construction dispute resolution. His influential publications include “Building information modeling for sustainable design and LEED® rating analysis” (2011), “Questionnaire survey on bidding in construction” (1988), “Decision-support system for modeling bid/no-bid decision problem” (1990), “Action research as a proactive research method for construction engineering and management” (2010), “Information technology (IT) and integration in the construction industry” (1995), “Factors influencing integrated project delivery in publicly owned construction projects: An information modelling perspective” (2014), and “An investigation of critical factors and constraints for selecting modular construction over conventional stick-built technique” (2013). With over 2,600 citations, his work has shaped advancements in construction project delivery, digital innovation, and sustainable practices within the field.
