Ife MacKenzie serves as a Lecturer in the Curtin School of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. She is part of the Curtin Medical School team and is based in Building 308, the Biomedical Sciences building, Room 208. Her contact telephone is 08 9266 4808.
In her teaching responsibilities, Ife MacKenzie has acted as unit coordinator for key pharmacy practice units, including PHAR1002 Pharmacy Practice 1 offered in Semester 1 2021 at the Bentley Campus and PHAR2003 Pharmacy Practice 2 in Semester 1 2026. These units fall under the Faculty of Health Sciences and cover practical aspects of pharmacy practice. A notable publication is her 2024 journal article titled "Escape rooms in pharmacy education: More than just a game," co-authored with Kiran Parsons and Ya Ping Lee, published in Current Pharmacy Teaching and Learning (Volume 16, Issue 12, page 102201). The study details an educational escape room activity implemented in an integrated pharmacology and therapeutics unit within the Pharmacy course at Curtin University using the university's model pharmacy. The activity was designed to promote the development of transversal skills and assist in retaining learned content knowledge. Students solved puzzles placed in briefcases to acquire a four-digit safe code required to unlock lifesaving medication for a fictional patient, allowing them to "escape" the room. Each session ended with a debrief. Fifty-four students participated in twelve groups, with eight groups successfully escaping. Pre- and post-knowledge assessments on cardiovascular content showed negligible differences. All students agreed that the escape room was effective for reviewing material, enjoyable, and should be continued. Ife MacKenzie contributed to funding acquisition, conceptualization, methodology, writing the original draft, and review and editing.
