Professor Hubert Low is a Clinical Professor in Macquarie Medical School at Macquarie University. An esteemed Otolaryngologist and Head and Neck Surgeon, he specializes in managing head and neck malignancies, facial nerve disorders, thyroid and parathyroid conditions, and reconstructive surgery. He holds the qualifications MBBS (Hons), BSc Med (Hons), and FRACS, having completed his ENT training in 2013, followed by advanced post-fellowship training in Australia and internationally. Dr. Low practices as a Head and Neck and Reconstructive Surgeon at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, where he also serves as Director of Education, Director of Facial Nerve Services, and Clinical Lead for the Head and Neck Database at the Sydney Head and Neck Cancer Institute. He maintains Visiting Medical Officer positions at Macquarie University Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. In academia, he is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at both Macquarie University and the University of Sydney, where he actively mentors ENT registrars and Head and Neck Fellows.
Professor Low's research focuses on head and neck oncology and reconstructive surgery, facial nerve disorder reconstruction, outcome studies for head and neck malignancies, and database structuring to support research. He has produced over 35 peer-reviewed journal articles and contributed to 93 research outputs, with presentations at numerous national and international conferences. Key publications include "Economic evaluation of intranasal wound dressings used in inferior turbinate reduction surgery" (2026, with Niles N. et al.), "A comparison of facial contour and patient-reported outcomes following zygomatic implant perforated (ZIP) flaps and fibular osseous flaps for maxillary reconstruction" (2025, with Ma J. et al.), "A pilot trial of tongue reconstruction using the chimeric innervated vastus lateralis muscle and antero-lateral thigh free flap" (2025, with Charters E. et al.), "Adjuvant chemoradiotherapy for oral cavity SCC with minor and major extranodal extension" (2025, with Manojlovic-Kolarski M. et al.), and "A review of submandibular gland extirpation in an Australian quaternary referral centre: aetiologies and trends over 35 years" (2025, with Flame A.C. et al.).
