Dr. Hiroshi Hasegawa is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. He serves as the Japanese Course Coordinator and Major Coordinator for undergraduate Japanese studies. His academic qualifications include a PhD from the University of Tasmania, a Master of Education Studies in Languages Other Than English (LOTE), a Master of Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and a Graduate Diploma in Education, all from the University of Tasmania. With extensive teaching experience from primary to tertiary levels, Dr. Hasegawa coordinates and teaches undergraduate units focused on Japanese as a second language and contemporary Japanese culture. Previously, he was a lecturer in the School of Social Science and Asian Languages at Curtin University of Technology.
Dr. Hasegawa's research interests include second and foreign language education, particularly LOTE (Japanese) and TESOL, ethics in education, and the enhancement of education through information and communication technology (ICT). He is a member of the Applied Linguistics, TESOL and Languages Research Group and collaborates with the University of Hyogo on teaching and curriculum delivery. Key publications encompass 'Fully Online Second Language Education at Tertiary Level: A Pedagogical Analysis and Critical Discussion' (2015), 'The Challenges Encountered in a Strongly Promoted Mentor Program' (2010), 'Computerised or Face-to-Face Oral Testing? A Tutor's Critical Reflection of Japanese Beginners' Test Experience and Learner Anxiety' (2020, co-authored with Julian Chen and Teagan Collopy), 'Reflections from a Teachers' Perspective about the Challenges Faced by Students with Disabilities Majoring in Japanese as a Foreign Language' (2018, co-authored with Karen Nonis), and 'The Critical Role of Universities in Impacting upon English Education in Japan' (2017). He received an Honourable Mention in the Curtin Student Guild Excellence in Teaching Awards. Dr. Hasegawa contributes to innovative practices in language instruction and inclusive education.
