About Hania

Hania Dawani is an accomplished academic and leader in nursing and health sciences, with deep ties to Boston University, where she earned degrees from the School of Nursing in 1981 and 1989, and a Master of Public Health from the School of Public Health in 1986. Holding a Doctor of Nursing Science, she has dedicated her career to advancing mental health nursing, public health services, nursing education, and policy development across the United States and the Middle East. In 2016, the Boston University School of Public Health honored her with the Distinguished Alumni Award for her outstanding contributions to public health and nursing practice.

Since June 2014, Dawani has served as Associate Professor in the Department of Nursing at California State University, Northridge, teaching courses in leadership, ethics, family health, communication, and health education, while advising RN-BSN students, participating in curriculum development, and serving on departmental committees. Her extensive career includes Vice Dean at Philadelphia University in Jordan (2007-2011), Director of Professional Services at the Jordanian Nursing Council (2011-2014), multiple leadership roles at the same council from 2007 onward, Assistant Professor and Head of the Mental Health Section at the University of Jordan School of Nursing (1989-1993), Chair and Director of the Nursing Program at Applied Science University (1994-2005), and adjunct faculty positions at Azusa Pacific University (2006-2008). She has provided clinical supervision in mental health centers and private counseling since 1989.

Dawani's research focuses on mental health, stress appraisal among health workers and students, social support systems, nursing leadership, and home health care challenges in Jordan. Notable publications include "Home Health Care (HHC) Managers Perceptions About Challenges and Obstacles that Hinder HHC Services in Jordan" (2015), "Cognitive Appraisal of Stress and Health Status of Wage Working and Nonwage Working Women in Jordan" (2006, Journal of Transcultural Nursing), "Social Support and Stress Among University Students in Jordan" (2008), "Depression, Hostility, and Substance Use Among University Students in Jordan" (2008), and "Jordanian Nurses' Perception of Leadership Characteristics: Descriptive Phenomenological Study" (2009). She has consulted for the World Health Organization on stress management guidelines and mental health programs, chaired professional committees, organized national conferences, and developed strategic plans for nursing advancement.
