Dr. Yap Han Seong is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Internal Medicine at Clinical School Johor Bahru, Monash University Malaysia, within the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He obtained his B.Med.Sc. in 1990 and MD in 1994 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) since 2000 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) since 2012. His career started as an intern at Muar Hospital from 1994 to 1995, completing rotations in internal medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, and obstetrics and gynaecology, while participating in night calls and basic clinical procedures. As a house officer in Internal Medicine from 1995 to 1999, he managed active medical wards, supervised junior officers, presented cases during consultant rounds, engaged in CME activities, and undertook clinical attachments at various hospitals in Malaysia and Singapore. He collaborated with consultants on clinical research, including writing papers.
From 1999 to 2000, Yap Han Seong completed pre-MRCP training at Glasgow Royal Infirmary with Prof. DH Lawson, rotating in general medicine, dermatology, geriatrics, and medical cardiology. He then returned to Muar Hospital as a clinical specialist from 2000 to 2001, training house officers, organizing in-house CME and pre-MRCP courses, and supporting undergraduate medical education. Since 2002, he has worked as a consultant physician at his private clinic, managing outpatient clinics, ward work, night calls, and a non-invasive cardiac lab with stress ECG and echocardiography. As part-time senior lecturer at Monash University Malaysia since 2010, he leads afternoon bedside sessions for third-year students in internal medicine, serves on the exam committee, acts as an examiner for third-year final exams, provides social counseling, and supports PACES training for MRCP candidates. His publications include co-authored reviews on bronchial asthma, diabetes mellitus, and dengue fever; an epidemiological study on dengue fever presenting symptoms (Malaysian Medical Journal); a survey on asthma diagnosis and inhalational techniques (Malaysian Medical Journal); a diabetes presenting symptoms survey for local consensus; and the Emergency Medicine Handbook, Muar Hospital.
