A master at fostering understanding.
Hadley Northcott is a PhD candidate in the Department of Pathology and Biomedical Science at the University of Otago, Christchurch, affiliated with the Mackenzie Cancer Research Group. His doctoral research centers on allele-specific expression analysis of BRCA1/2 variants in breast cancer patients. This work aims to enhance understanding of genetic mechanisms underlying breast cancer risk. He is supervised by Professor Logan Walker, Dr Vanessa Lattimore, and Associate Professor John Pearson. Prior to his PhD, Northcott completed a Master of Biomedical Science at the University of Otago. His research interests include cancer genetics, sequencing, and molecular biology.
Northcott has contributed to several publications. In 2020, he co-authored 'Potential under-ascertainment of New Zealand women at high-risk of breast cancer in clinical care' in the Proceedings of the Genetics Otago (GO) Zoom Symposium (Lattimore, V., Parsons, M., Spurdle, A., Pearson, J., Northcott, H., Lehnert, K., Morrin, H., Robinson, B., & Walker, L.). Earlier works include 'Significant Differences in Genetic Risk Profiles Between Maori and European Presenting with Myocardial Infarction' (2017) and 'Genetic Risk Scoring in a Young Myocardial Infarction (MI) Population' (2016 conference paper). He presented his PhD research during the University of Otago Christchurch Research Seminar Series.
