Gregory Travis, PhD, served as Professor of Psychology and Director of the PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology at Mount Saint Mary's University in Los Angeles, California, for 17 years until his retirement in 2025. He holds an A.B. from Occidental College, an M.S. from the University of Southern California, and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. A licensed psychologist, Travis dedicated his career to advancing clinical psychology education and training.
Travis spearheaded the launch of the PsyD program in 2018, guiding it to full accreditation by the American Psychological Association in 2025. Under his direction, the program, inspired by the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph, prepared students from diverse backgrounds to deliver psychological services to their communities. He was promoted to associate professor in 2018 and received honors for his longstanding contributions to the Psychology Department upon retirement. Travis's academic interests centered on effective teaching strategies in psychology. He co-presented on team-based learning at the Vancouver International Conference on the Teaching of Psychology in 2015, titled 'How eight faculty engaged in team based learning and you can too!' with colleagues Darla Dunlop, Robin Bishop, and Aloha Buenaventura. Additionally, he explored the role of discussion forums in facilitating student interaction and engagement with course content. Through these efforts and his leadership, Travis influenced the professional development of numerous psychologists equipped for community-focused practice.
