Greg Hennessy is an Associate Teaching Professor of Management at the University of Oregon's Lundquist College of Business. He earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology (Strategic Management) from Claremont Graduate University in 2023, with a dissertation titled "The assessment of founder characteristics in investment decisions." His earlier degrees include an M.S. in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1993, an M.S. in Social Science from the California Institute of Technology in 1989, and a B.S. in Economics from the University of Houston in 1987.
Hennessy's career combines extensive consulting and academic roles. He joined the University of Oregon in 2021 as an Instructor of Management, advancing to Senior Instructor (2021–2024) and Associate Teaching Professor (2024–2025). Previously, he served as Senior Adjunct Instructor at the University of La Verne (2016–2021), Business Simulation Expert at The Wharton School (2009–present), and held adjunct positions at the University of Southern California, Saint Edward’s University, and various community colleges. In the private sector, he was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company (1999–2002), Founder and Managing Partner of Speed Circuit Training Associates LLC (2002–2004) and Dynamic Strategies (1996–1998), and consultant at Monitor Company, Forio, and Shell Oil. He teaches undergraduate courses in Business Strategy & Planning, Launching New Ventures, and Leadership & Communication, as well as graduate-level organizational theory, strategic management, and positive organizational psychology. Hennessy has facilitated over 100 executive training sessions on strategy and organizational behavior. His research focuses on systems thinking for leadership and sustainability, positive entrepreneurship, and the interrelationship between leadership traits and organizational culture. Key publications include "Career Decision Making" in Handbook of Research Methods in Careers (2021, with Jeffrey Yip), "India’s Aadhaar Project: The Unprecedented and Unique Partnership for Inclusion" in Journal of Administrative Science (2015, with Roger Chin and Toby Madubuko), and articles in The Systems Thinker such as "Modeling 'Soft' Variables" (1997) and "Black-Belt Mastery of Mental Models" (2008). Awards include the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award from the Lundquist College of Business (2022–23), International Positive Psychology Association Scholarship Award (2015), and fellowships from Claremont Graduate University (2013–2015). He advises the university's Case Competition Team and Sales Club.
