Professor Gina Kruger serves as Professor of Nursing and Midwifery and Head of Program for Nursing and Midwifery in the College of Sport, Health and Engineering at Victoria University. She took on the Head of Program role on 1 November 2024, after serving as Course Chair for the Bachelor of Midwifery/Bachelor of Nursing from 1 January 2020 to 1 April 2024. Additionally, Gina Kruger has been Deputy Chair of the Human Research Ethics Committee at Victoria University since 1 February 2020. Her robust academic qualifications include a PhD from Victoria University in 2014, with the doctoral thesis entitled "Promoting normal birthing: aspiring to develop a midwife-led scope of practice." She holds a Master of Nursing from RMIT University awarded in 1999, a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Practice and Management (Advanced Midwifery) from RMIT University in 1996, registration as a Midwife from Forth Valley College of Nursing and Midwifery in Scotland in 1991, and a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education from Victoria University in 2018.
Gina Kruger's research program in Health Sciences centers on two primary domains: clinical research focusing on peer support for nurse-midwives and ethico-legal aspects of safe childbirth to enhance perinatal mental health; and education and innovation, which involves improving students' experiences in Continuity of Care with women, evaluating block learning models, and bolstering curricula for contemporary nursing and midwifery graduate practice. As an accredited supervisor, she oversees higher degree research students in nursing, midwifery, and public health, while also mentoring and developing new researchers. Her professional engagements include membership of advisory committees and collaborative projects, underscoring her contributions to advancing nursing and midwifery education and clinical practice at Victoria University.
