Geethanjali Wimalaratne is a Senior Lecturer in Software Engineering in the Faculty of Computing at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), a position she has held since June 2009. She currently serves as the Software Engineering Program Coordinator since 2020 and was Campus Coordinator from 2007 to 2012. Her professional career also includes roles as Lecturer at SLIIT from June 2005 to 2009, Lecturer at the University of Colombo School of Computing from June 2004 to June 2005, and Lecturer at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University from June 1995 to December 1996. Wimalaratne has been identified as a supervisor from Curtin University Colombo for student projects that apply academic concepts to real-world industry challenges, contributing to innovative solutions in collaboration with industry partners. SLIIT maintains a longstanding partnership with Curtin University, enabling the delivery of full Curtin degrees in Sri Lanka through its international programs.
She earned her Master of Science from the University of Salford, UK in 2002, BSc (Honours) Special Degree in Computer Science from the University of Colombo in 1994, and Diploma in Electronic Engineering from the Institute of Technological Studies in 1990. Her research interests center on Data Visualization and Human Computer Interaction. Key publications include 'CinneX: Integrating Digital Technologies for Sustainable Cinnamon Farming in Sri Lanka' (2025), 'Intelligent Systems for Comprehensive Dog Management' (2025), 'Biometric authentication of an automated teller machine using facial recognition' (2022), 'Intelligent System for Skin Disease Detection of Dogs with Ontology Based Clinical Information Extraction' (2022), 'Language Skills with Mouse Clicks' (International Conference on Future Computer and Communication, IEEE, 2009), 'A Blend of Adaptive and Digital Learning Towards Language Proficiency' (4th International Conference on Information and Automation for Sustainability, IEEE, 2008), and 'Mobile BasElectricity Billing System (MoBEBIS)' (International Journal of Scientific and Research Publications, Volume 3, Issue 4, 2013). Wimalaratne is a member of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka and was awarded a merit-based studentship based on first-year undergraduate results in 1991 from the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo.
