Gary Peacock has demonstrated long-term commitment to the university. In 2015, he received the Disability Information & Support (DI&S) Appreciation Award for providing exceptional support and guidance to staff and students affiliated with Information Technology Services. That same year, associated with Corporate Support, he participated in the longstanding campus tradition of observing the first bloom of the magnolia tree, marking the arrival of spring. Peacock noted, “We all note it and talk about it, but we are a fairly sedate lot; when it blooms, we don't crack open champagne and talk about the old times, put it that way. But it is interesting as a sign that spring is here and we're through the coldest months, and it is interesting to observe the trends.” He observed that “Since we've been recording Magnolia Day, the date of the first bloom has moved from the end of August, through to the start of August, although this year was a bit different.” In 2019, as ITS Team Leader Desktop Support North, Peacock reminisced about historical IT equipment during the Financial Services Division office renovation, stating he remembers the old dot matrix line printers well, including units like Big Reggie that stood about four feet tall.
