Felicity Baker serves as an academic staff member in the School of Education at Murdoch University. She completed her Masters by Research degree at Murdoch University in 2023. The title of her thesis is 'Which Path to Mathematical Problem-solving?: Teachers' Perceptions of Mathematical Problem-solving in the Primary Years.' This work investigates teachers' understandings and approaches to mathematical problem-solving within primary education settings. Baker is registered as a non-practicing teacher with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia. She is also a member of the Western Australian Institute for Educational Research (WAIER). Her professional engagements include teaching responsibilities in the Bachelor of Education program, such as coordinating the BED150 unit on planning for children's learning, where students are guided through expectations, teaching loads, and practical applications in early childhood and primary contexts.
Baker has actively contributed to academic discourse through conference presentations. At the 2022 WAIER forum, she presented 'Mathematical problem solving: What does it mean to primary teachers?,' exploring primary teachers' conceptualizations of problem-solving in mathematics. She collaborated with Rebecca Noonan and Sandi Fielder on a presentation at the 2021 WAIER conference, detailing a case study of a metropolitan-based preservice teacher's remote placement in Broome, highlighting impacts on rural education experiences. Additionally, she has been involved in discussions on 'Communities of practice with a difference: Collaborative academic writing during disruption,' sharing early findings on success factors for higher research degree students and academics amid challenges. These contributions underscore her focus on teacher education, mathematical pedagogy, and collaborative research practices within the education field. Her work supports the School of Education's mission to prepare graduates for careers in early childhood, primary, and secondary teaching through industry partnerships and practical skill development.
