About Fazal

Fazal Rizvi is an Emeritus Professor of Global Studies in Education at the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Education and holds the same emeritus position at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As an Academic Fellow at the Australia India Institute, he has extensively researched identity and culture in transnational contexts, globalization and education policy, internationalization of higher education, politics of India-Australia research collaborations, Australia-Asia relations, and educational reform in Bhutan. With a disciplinary background in philosophy, Rizvi's work critically analyzes how global forces shape educational practices, policies, and equity issues across diverse settings.

Rizvi has authored influential books including Globalizing Education Policy (Routledge, 2010), Reimagining Globalization and Education (Routledge, 2022), and Encountering Education in the Global: Selected Works of Fazal Rizvi (Routledge, 2014). He was Editor-in-Chief of the 4th edition of the International Encyclopedia of Education (Elsevier, 2022) and Past Editor of Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education. His leadership includes serving as Past President of the Australian Association for Research in Education, earning the Honorary Life Member Award, and election as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Social Sciences. Highly cited publications feature 'Theorizing student mobility in an era of globalization' (Teachers and Teaching, 2011) and 'Postcolonialism and Globalization in Education' (2007).
