Evelyn Wilson is a Teaching Associate Professor in the School of Health Sciences within the College of Health and Human Sciences at Western Carolina University. She serves as Program Director for the Master of Health Sciences (M.H.S.) program, for which she is the designated contact for the Emergency Medical Care concentration, and as Residential Program Director for the Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Care (EMC) on the Cullowhee campus. The EMC B.S. program is the first baccalaureate paramedic program in the nation, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs through the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions. It is available residentially and 100% online via distance education, requiring current paramedic certification and a minimum 2.5 GPA for online entry. Spanning 120 credit hours, it includes concentrations in Health Services Management and Clinical Science. Graduates enter careers as paramedics, educators, physicians, physician assistants, EMS administrators, hospital administrators, EMS directors, training officers, consultants, paramedic educators, researchers, or pursue further studies in medicine, physician assistant programs, or graduate school.
Dr. Evelyn Wilson earned her Master of Health Sciences from Western Carolina University in December 2008 and her Doctor of Education from North Central University in January 2018. A graduate of Erskine College in 1994, she began her career as a paramedic with Spartanburg EMS, accumulating over 27 years of experience while continuing part-time. She holds credentials as a paramedic instructor in South Carolina and North Carolina, as well as certifications NRP and NCEE. Joining Western Carolina University in 2011 as an Assistant Professor in the EMC Program, she became Clinical Education Coordinator in 2014 and later Program Director. Wilson presented “Are We Doing Enough to Protect Our Clinical Students” at the NC EMS Expo, organized by the North Carolina Office of EMS at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, NC. She has appeared on WSPA's Fred the Show to discuss the WCU EMC program. Her blend of extensive clinical practice and academic leadership enriches emergency medical care education at the university.
