Evan Coopes is a Lecturer in the Curtin School of Allied Health within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University, Perth, Australia. He holds a Master of Clinical Physiotherapy from Curtin University and is recognized as an APA Titled Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapist. His academic responsibilities include lecturing in clinical musculoskeletal science, sports and exercise physiotherapy, anatomy, and pathology. Coopes also serves as a clinical supervisor for postgraduate students in the Master of Clinical Physiotherapy program and acts as the primary contact for postgraduate course enquiries at the School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science. His dual role in clinical practice and academia enables him to integrate practical expertise with teaching, preparing students for real-world applications in physiotherapy.
Coopes has made significant contributions to teaching excellence and international education at Curtin University. As a member of the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Team, he received the Teaching Team Award for excellence and innovation from the Faculty of Health Sciences. For over five years up to 2022, he has led the Physiotherapy Abroad Study Tours to Nepal, accompanying students on four-week clinical placements at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital. In this capacity, he supports students' immersion in the Nepalese healthcare system, conducts daily debrief and reflection sessions, organizes cross-cultural activities including weddings and community events, and represents the School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science in meetings with clinical partners to foster ongoing relationships. His research interests encompass rehabilitation, physical rehabilitation, musculoskeletal disorders, sports injuries, and injury prevention, reflected in publications such as 'Thrust manipulation may not decrease the intensity of chronic low back pain: Letter to the editor regarding “Manipulation and mobilization for treating chronic low back pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis” by Coulter et al.' (2018) and 'Parsonage-Turner Syndrome—A case study report' (2013).
