Dr Emmanuel Badu serves as a Lecturer in the Curtin School of Population Health within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University, Perth, Australia. He earned a BSc (Honours) in Biochemistry from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, an MSc in Public Health (Health Promotion) from Leeds Metropolitan University, and a PhD from Auckland University of Technology. Prior to joining Curtin University, Badu was Programme Leader for the Bachelor of Health Science in Public and Environmental Health at Auckland University of Technology from May 2022 to March 2023. He also worked as a program manager in primary care at Waitemata District Health Board in New Zealand.
Badu's academic interests center on public health, with specializations in migrant health among African communities, health and wellbeing intervention design, implementation, and evaluation, informal African community-based service delivery models, gambling advertising and regulatory frameworks in Ghana and Sub-Saharan Africa, tuberculosis trends among migrants, and community-led sanitation initiatives. Key publications include "The determinants of psychological distress and wellbeing among people of African descent living in Western Australia: evidence from a statewide health and wellbeing survey" (2025), "Gambling advertising regulation in Ghana: what do we know and where to next?" (2025), "Towards Understanding Contemporary Gambling Advertising in Sub-Saharan Africa" (2024), "The threat of gambling to public health in Ghana: time to act" (2024), "Setting the scene: a scoping review of gambling research in Ghana" (2023), "African Hut model of health: a framework for improving African migrant health in Aotearoa/New Zealand" (2023), and "Tuberculosis disease trends among African migrants from 2010 to 2014 in Aotearoa, New Zealand" (2021). He contributes to teaching Public Health and Health Promotion courses at Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master, and Open Universities Australia levels. Badu is a member of the Collaboration for Evidence, Research and Impact in Public Health (CERIPH) at Curtin University.
