In this role, she supports high-level research leadership and governance, acting as Executive Officer for the University Research Entities Committee and facilitating operations for Academic Board sub-committees. Official university governance documents list her as the point of contact for meeting papers and coordination, with submissions directed to her office. Emily also contributes to gender equity initiatives in public leadership, serving on the Advisory Committee for the Pathways to Politics for Women UWA program. This non-partisan program, developed in collaboration between the University of Western Australia, the Centre for Public Value, and the UWA Public Policy Institute, provides specialized training, networking, and mentorship to aspiring female politicians in Western Australia.
Emily Fogarty holds a first-class honours degree in anthropology and sociology from the University of Western Australia, complemented by a Master of Public Administration from Griffith University. During her honours studies, she conducted original student research on social adaptation among international students at UWA, exploring themes of friendship formation, exclusion from social situations, and integration challenges, which contributed to academic publications on international student experiences. Prior to her current position, Emily worked as a federal public servant, gaining expertise in public administration and policy. She has further supported UWA's research efforts through technical contributions to projects in respiratory medicine, including preliminary studies on senescence in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) lung fibroblasts, acknowledged in a 2020 publication, and co-authorship on a 2017 oral presentation at the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ).
