Elizabeth Webb is a Senior Instructor in the Department of Communication and Emerging Media at the University of South Carolina Aiken, where she also serves as Co-Director of African American Studies. Holding an MA, she plays a key role in academic programming and instruction within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. As the designated contact for the African American Studies minor, she supports an interdisciplinary curriculum requiring 18 credit hours focused on Black life and the African Diaspora in the Americas. The program covers literature, history, politics, art, and social justice through core courses such as African-American Literature, Sociology of the Black Experience, and African-American Rhetoric, ideal for students interested in social equity, education, or community engagement.
In her teaching responsibilities, Webb team-teaches the innovative freshman seminar HSSI A150, utilizing Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun to examine family communication, identity, and the forces shaping human connections. Her contributions highlight how media representations influence cultural narratives and perceptions of self and others. Webb has earned recognition for her commitment to teaching and service, including participation in the Masters Teacher’s Series with workshops on best practices for student learning and engagement, and the University Service Award in 2020. She has chaired search committees for Assistant Professor positions in Communication and Emerging Media. Her scholarly work includes co-authoring the 2025 article 'Analyzing considerations of environmental justice through nuclear communities of perspective' with Melencia Johnson and DeAnna Gore, published in Sociological Spectrum. Webb has engaged in professional activities such as presentations at the National Communication Association convention in 2016 and Southern Sociological Association meetings.
