Great Professor!
Dr. Eleanor Majellano serves as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Centre of Excellence in Treatable Traits at the University of Newcastle's School of Nursing and Midwifery, part of the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing. With over seven years of experience in clinical and translational research focused on airway diseases, she brings a multidisciplinary background to her work. Majellano earned a degree in Optometry with honours, receiving the Outstanding Optometry Graduate of the Year award. She was granted the prestigious Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship by the Australian government to pursue a Master of Public Health at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. Subsequently, in 2017, she secured an Australian Research Training Program scholarship alongside an NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Severe Asthma scholarship to complete her PhD in Nursing at the University of Newcastle. Her doctoral research culminated in the development of a person-centred model of care for individuals with severe asthma.
Majellano's research interests encompass caregiving burden, patient-reported outcome measures, person-centred care, research priority setting partnerships, severe asthma, and treatable traits. She utilizes diverse methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative approaches such as cross-sectional studies, focus groups, surveys, interviews, observations, nominal group technique, James Lind Alliance priority-setting, systematic reviews, thematic analysis, and content analysis. Key publications include "Key priorities to prevent avoidable asthma hospitalisations: insights from end-users" (ERJ Open Research, 2026), "Unlocking Asthma Remission: Key Insights From an Expert Roundtable Discussion" (Respirology, 2025), "Engagement and outcomes of virtual antenatal asthma care: a randomised controlled tele-trial" (ERJ Open Research, 2025), "Living With Asthma and Vocal Cord Dysfunction/Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction: 'I Just Can't Get Air In'" (Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in Practice, 2024), "The illness burden of severe asthma contrasted to people with mild-to-moderate asthma: a qualitative study" (ERJ Open Research, 2024), and "Identifying the asthma research priorities of people with asthma, their carers and other stakeholders" (Respirology, 2023). She has authored 15 peer-reviewed publications, predominantly as first author. Majellano played a pivotal role in Australia's inaugural National Priority Setting Partnership in asthma and advises the Medical Research Future Fund's Expert Consumer Panel for chronic respiratory conditions. As the Asthma Australia Research Fellow, she drives initiatives to integrate consumer perspectives into research and healthcare redesign for equitable, personalised care in obstructive airway diseases.
