Edward Price, Ph.D., is Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Physics at California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM), and Faculty Director of the Center for Research and Engagement in STEM Education (CRESE). He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, San Diego in October 2001, an M.S. in Physics from the University of California, San Diego, and a Sc.B. in Physics from Brown University. Price's career at CSUSM encompasses teaching, research, and leadership in advancing STEM education.
His research in physics education research examines curriculum development, the impact of technology on classroom environments, how tools mediate group interactions, students' use of representations, and student learning. As principal investigator, he has led NSF-funded projects including the $2,877,300 grant—the largest awarded to a CSUSM faculty member—for 'A Model of Educational Transformation: Developing a Community of Faculty Implementing Next Generation Physical Science and Everyday Thinking,' which transforms courses to prepare future elementary teachers using Next Generation Science Standards materials; STEM Mobile Making; and Next Gen PET FOLC. Price received the Harry E. Brakebill Distinguished Professor Award for 2023-2024. Key publications include 'Structural features of algebraic quantum notations' (2015, Physical Review Special Topics—Physics Education Research); 'Analyzing a faculty online learning community as a mechanism for supporting faculty implementation of a guided-inquiry curriculum' (2021, International Journal of STEM Education); 'Characterizing the epistemological development of physics majors' (2009); 'Arrows as anchors: An analysis of the material features of electric field vector arrows' (2014); and 'Faculty persistence with research-based instructional strategies: A case study of participation in a faculty online learning community' (2020). His work influences faculty development, STEM curriculum adoption, informal science education, and learning support structures.
