About Ed

Ed Renwick is a prominent figure in Political Science, renowned for his expertise in Louisiana politics and American government processes. He earned his B.A. from Georgetown University in 1960, followed by an M.A. in 1962 from the University of Arizona with a thesis entitled 'The Legislative Roles of the Negro Congressman,' exploring the roles played by African American congressmen in the legislative arena. He completed his Ph.D. in Government from the University of Arizona in 1967, with a dissertation titled 'The Longs' Legislative Lieutenants,' which examined the legislative allies of the Long political family in Louisiana. These graduate works at the University of Arizona established his early focus on legislative dynamics and Southern political structures.

As Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Loyola University New Orleans, Renwick taught a range of courses including political corruption, voter behavior, the legislative process, and the administrative process in American government. He directed the Institute of Politics, fostering student engagement in political analysis and public affairs. Renwick gained widespread recognition as an expert on Louisiana politics, serving as a political analyst for WWL-TV from 1979 to 2008 and conducting polls that influenced local elections. Politicians across Louisiana sought his insights on voter trends and campaign strategies. His contributions to political commentary and polling earned him the 'Best Pollster in New Orleans' award from Gambit Newspaper readers, the Roll Model Award from the Young Leadership Council in 1995, and induction into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame in 1999. Renwick's career bridged academia and public discourse, providing practical interpretations of political phenomena through teaching, media appearances, and advisory roles.
