Delvin Peterson serves as Dean and Professor of Engineering in the School of Engineering at Walla Walla University, a position he holds after joining the faculty in 2004. In this capacity, he leads academic programs, faculty, and student activities, including hands-on events like the annual Engineering Week Dinner, Egg Drop competition, Foucault pendulum demonstrations, and senior engineering trips to industry sites. These initiatives align with the school's 75-year tradition of practical engineering education, featuring advanced laboratory facilities and a focus on student learning outcomes assessed regularly. Peterson's administrative role also involves serving as department chair among WWU's academic leadership.
Peterson earned his B.S.E. from Walla Walla University in 2001, M.S.M.E. from Oregon State University in 2004, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University in 2012. During his graduate studies, he worked as a graduate research assistant in mechanical engineering, contributing to research on sensor calibration, as detailed in 'Calibration of Smart Weapon Motion Sensors for High-Speed Manufacturing Lines.' Later, affiliated with Walla Walla University, he co-authored 'Impact of slope on dynamics of running and climbing,' published in Bioinspiration & Biomimetics in 2020. A member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), his teaching portfolio includes engineering, engineering mechanics, engineering economy, writing for engineers, and instrumentation, supporting the school's multidisciplinary engineering majors.
