David Padrón Marrero is a Profesor Contratado Doctor in the Department of Economía Aplicada y Métodos Cuantitativos at the Universidad de La Laguna, within the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism. He earned his Licenciatura en Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales from the Universidad de La Laguna in 1996, followed by a Diploma de Estudios Avanzados (DEA) in Economía Aplicada in 2003, and a PhD in Ciencias Económicas in 2005 with the thesis 'Asimetrías regionales en el mecanismo de transmisión monetaria. El papel de las condiciones financieras,' supervised by Carlos Javier Rodríguez Fuentes and Sheila Dow. His academic career at the Universidad de La Laguna began in 1998 as a professor in the Department of Economía Aplicada, progressing to Profesor Ayudante Doctor from 2006 to 2015, and then to his current role as Profesor Contratado Doctor Interino since 2015. He served as a visiting postgraduate PhD student at the University of Stirling, Scotland, during the 2000/2001 academic year. Administratively, he has held the position of Director General de Investigación y Coordinación del Desarrollo Sostenible for the Gobierno de Canarias, and currently serves as Vicepresidente Segundo of the Red Española para el Desarrollo Sostenible (REDS), member of the Comité de Expertos de la Agenda Canaria 2030, and member of the Consejo Canario de Desarrollo Sostenible. He is also an investigator at the Centro de Estudios de Desigualdad Social y Gobernanza and contributes to the Vicedecanato de Relaciones Internacionales y Movilidad.
Padrón Marrero's research focuses on monetary policy and its regional asymmetries, the economy of the Canary Islands, and sustainable development aligned with the Agenda 2030 and Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS). Key publications include the co-edited book 'Economía de Canarias: dinámica, estructura y retos' (Tirant lo Blanch, 2015), the chapter 'Las fuentes del crecimiento económico, el modelo económico canario' in the same volume (2015), 'Industry effects of monetary policy in Spain' in Regional Studies (2008, 35 citations), 'La endogeneidad de la oferta monetaria: Teoría y evidencia empírica para la economía española' in Revista Asturiana de Economía (2004, 15 citations), and recent works such as 'La Agenda 2030 en la planificación y gestión de los destinos turísticos sostenibles' (2023), 'La Agenda Canaria 2030: Una guía para la transformación con propósito' (2023), and 'Sostenibilidad de la viticultura frente a los impactos del cambio climático en la isla de Lanzarote' (2026). His contributions extend to analyses of low-wage employment, energy poverty, inequality, and social cohesion in the Canary Islands, as well as educational innovations integrating ODS.
