David Lindsey serves as Chair and Professor of Biology in the Department of Biological Sciences at Walla Walla University, where he has been a faculty member since 1997. He earned a B.S. in 1981 from Southwestern Adventist College and a Ph.D. in 1992 from the University of Texas at Austin. Lindsey's research specializes in molecular and developmental biology, focusing on the growth-to-development transition and selective protein degradation using the model organism Dictyostelium discoideum.
In 2015, Lindsey co-authored the publication 'Wss1 metalloprotease partners with Cdc48/Doa1 in processing genotoxic SUMO conjugates' in eLife, collaborating with Keith Wilkinson and others. This research identifies critical protein interactions in DNA repair processes that occur before cell division to avert replication of genetic defects, providing insights into disease mechanisms such as cancer. The core experiments stemmed from his 2006 sabbatical at Emory University. Lindsey received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Scholarship for the 1999-2000 academic year. As department chair, he leads the Biological Sciences program and mentors undergraduates whose research has been presented at conferences including the Murdock College Science Research Conference and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology meetings. He facilitates the department's Journal Club to promote engagement with primary scientific literature and advises students in the Center for Health Professions. Lindsey also teaches courses such as Scientific Diving at the Rosario Beach Marine Laboratory.
