David Farnsworth is the Chair of the English and Modern Languages Department and Lecturer of Spanish and Translation/Interpreting in the School of Liberal Arts at Oral Roberts University, where he has been associated for almost 25 years—first as an undergraduate student after returning from Bolivia as a high school foreign exchange student, then as a graduate student, and now as faculty. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish/French education from Oral Roberts University in 1994, during which he spent a semester studying French at the Université Lumière in Lyon, France. Farnsworth completed a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Oral Roberts University in 2000 and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Spanish Translation and Professional Writing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Before returning to Oral Roberts University as a professor, he taught Spanish for two years at Tulsa Community College, served as a Spanish translator and voice talent for a local software company for one year, and taught Spanish and French at Jenks Middle School for one year. He also directed the ORU Language Lab and Cultural Center for two years.
In his current roles, Farnsworth teaches beginning Spanish, Spanish phonetics, composition, and courses in translation and interpreting. He serves as faculty advisor to Spanish and French majors seeking K-12 teacher licensure and as advisor for the new Bachelor of Arts degree in Translation and Interpreting. Additionally, he is the program advisor for Liberal Studies and Translation and Interpreting. Farnsworth's commitment extends to supporting students inside and outside the classroom, where he listens to their passions for faith and encourages their visions for future service aligned with their calling. His extensive experience in language education and administration contributes to the academic programs in modern languages at Oral Roberts University.
