Darcy B. Adin, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology), serves as Clinical Professor of Cardiology and Associate Dean of Clinical Services for Small Animal in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 1996 and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Hartwick College in 1992. Adin completed a cardiology residency at the University of California, Davis in 1999 and an internship at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in 1997, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in Cardiology in 2000. She joined the University of Florida faculty in 2001 as a board-certified veterinary cardiologist at the Small Animal Hospital, where she also directs the Open-Heart Surgery Program and oversees small animal hospital operations. Adin has held positions in both academic and private specialty practice.
Dr. Adin's research specializes in enhancing outcomes for dogs with heart disease, focusing on diuretic therapies for congestive heart failure, the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, hypochloremia management, electrolyte disturbances, and diet-associated dilated cardiomyopathy. She has secured grants from the American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation, including studies on serum chloride concentrations and RAAS in dogs with congestive heart failure (2024-2025), potassium chloride supplementation for hypochloremia and RAAS modulation (2022-active), and subclinical diet-associated DCM in dog breeds (2019-2024). Key publications include "Toward quantification of loop diuretic responsiveness for congestive heart failure" (Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, 2022), "Influence of sex on renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system metabolites and enzymes in Doberman Pinschers" (Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, 2022), and "Metabolomic profiling in dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy eating non-traditional or traditional diets and in healthy controls" (Scientific Reports, 2022). Adin received the Florida Veterinary Medical Association Clinical Investigator Award in 2022 and teaches courses such as VEM5301 Cardiopulmonary Disorders and VEM5862 Veterinary Cardiology Clerkship.
