Danielle Mey, also known as Danielle Dictado Matusalem, is the Executive Assistant and Administrative Specialist in the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine at the University of Washington. She supports administrative operations, including the residency program, and serves as a key contact for events such as lab meetings and grand rounds. Danielle is deeply committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), holding positions as co-Chair of the UW Rheumatology Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee alongside Grant Hughes, MD, and as a DEIB Champion in the Department of Medicine. Her contributions promote inclusivity within the division and broader department through committee work focused on the University of Washington community and beyond.
A proud Filipina-American and University of Washington alumna, Danielle graduated in June 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology (Physiology) and a minor in Diversity. During her undergraduate studies, she developed strong leadership and administrative skills through several roles. As a Resident Adviser (RA) for residential halls on the Seattle campus during her sophomore and junior years, she lived with residents, fostered meaningful relationships, enforced housing policies, organized diversity and inclusivity programs like board game nights and stress-relief bulletin boards, participated in team meetings, handled administrative tasks, and served on-call duties from 5pm to 8am weekly to address issues such as policy violations, noise, and emergencies. She underwent a competitive selection process including essays, interviews, an RA class, and three weeks of training. In summers, she worked as a Conference/Meeting Services Assistant, coordinating conferences for up to 4,100 guests from diverse groups including international students, professionals, and interns; tasks included room assignments, customer service, payment processing, policy explanations, and collaboration with campus partners like catering and custodial staff. Additionally, she served as a Gameday Recruiting Intern for Husky Football, nurturing relationships with high school recruits for coaches. Her high school leadership included President of the National Honor Society and Senior Class President. Danielle's leadership philosophy, shaped by these experiences, emphasizes organization, meticulousness, determination, compassion, open-mindedness, respect, collaboration, reflection, and empowering others to build inclusive, high-functioning teams driven by altruism and passion for service.
