Subedi's research focuses on conflict transformation and peacebuilding, the intersections of religion and politics, and populism and nationalism, particularly in authoritarian, populist, and nationalist states in South and Southeast Asia. His fieldwork spans Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, and Myanmar. Key publications include his monograph, Combatants to Civilians: Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Maoist Fighters in Nepal's Peace Process (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018); the co-edited volume, The Routledge Handbook of Populism in the Asia Pacific (Routledge, 2023); and Reconciliation in Conflict-Affected Communities: Practices and Insights from the Asia-Pacific (Springer, 2018). Selected journal articles comprise "Authoritarian populist politics, politico-religious extremism, and violence against women in post-war Sri Lanka" (World Affairs, 2024, with Shyamika Jayasundara-Smits), "Youth, politics, and youth-led political violence in Nepal" (Asian Politics & Policy, 2022, with Ramesh Shrestha), "Rethinking peacebuilding in the age of populism" (Peace Review, 2022), and "Conflict, combatants, and cash: economic reintegration and livelihoods of ex-combatants in Nepal" (World Development, 2014).
