Professor Claire Cameron serves as Conjoint Professor and Honorary Professor at the Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher Education (CEEHE) within the Engagement and Equity Division at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She is Professor of Social Pedagogy at the UCL Institute of Education, University College London, affiliated with the Thomas Coram Research Unit in the Social Research Institute. As the UK's first Professor of Social Pedagogy, she has conducted research on issues of care, social pedagogy, gender, the children's workforce, and early childhood education and care for over two decades. Cameron co-directs the Centre for Understanding Social Pedagogy and has led large cross-national studies funded by governments, the European Union, and non-governmental organizations. Her work focuses on providing pathways into higher education for young people in out-of-home care.
At CEEHE, Professor Cameron supports the Live, Learn, Grow program by offering expertise to advance research-informed practice and policy influence. She is Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Social Pedagogy. Key publications include 'Men in the Nursery: Gender and Caring Work' (1999, with Peter Moss and Charlie Owen), 'Social Pedagogy and Working with Children and Young People: Where Care and Education Meet' (2011, with Peter Moss), 'Care Work in Europe: Current Understandings and Future Directions' (2007, edited with Peter Moss), 'Working with Children in Care: European Perspectives' (2006, with Pat Petrie, Janet Boddy, and Veronica Wigfall), and studies on care leavers' transitions in Britain, Finland, and Germany (2018). In 2016, she visited CEEHE to contribute to initiatives on equity in higher education.
