Professor Ciaren Graham serves as Professor and Dean of Education in the School of Biological Sciences at Queen's University Belfast, and is a member of the Institute for Global Food Security. He progressed to the rank of Professor in 2022 and contributes to leadership within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. His research specializations include proteomics and mass spectrometry, biomarker discovery for haematological disorders such as systemic mastocytosis and myeloproliferative neoplasms, helminth antimicrobial peptide repertoires, cell reprogramming, bioentrepreneurship, undergraduate transitions, and curriculum design for healthcare professionals. Graham supervises PhD projects investigating the molecular aetiology of mastocytosis and the molecular mechanisms of myeloproliferative neoplasms.
Graham's key publications demonstrate his impact in biomarker research and proteomics. Notable works include 'SWATH-MS identification of CXCL7, LBP, TGFβ1 and PDGFRβ as novel biomarkers in human systemic mastocytosis' (Scientific Reports, 2022), 'Novel integrated computational AMP discovery approaches highlight diversity in the helminth AMP repertoire' (PLoS Pathogens, 2023), 'The impact of JAK2V617F variant allele frequency in MPN patients following PEGylated interferon alpha discontinuation' (British Journal of Haematology, 2025), and 'GATA-1: a potential novel biomarker for the differentiation of essential thrombocythaemia and myelofibrosis'. He has collaborated with haematologists and clinicians on blood screening for early ovarian cancer detection and presented on entrepreneurial education at the RSB Conference 2024 alongside contributions to post-COVID undergraduate transition strategies. His work fosters translational advancements in diagnostics, education, and food security through extensive interdisciplinary partnerships.
