Christine Walker has been a Professor in the Mathematics Department at Utah Valley University since 1992. Prior to joining UVU, she served as an instructor of mathematics and department chair at Wasatch Middle School in Heber City, Utah, and as an instructor of mathematics at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She earned her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Utah State University in 2008, M.A. in Mathematics Education from Brigham Young University in 1991, and B.A. in Mathematics Education from Brigham Young University in 1989. Walker primarily teaches College Algebra, College Algebra with Preliminaries, Methods of Secondary School Mathematics Teaching, and Algebra for Secondary Mathematics Teaching, while also supervising Secondary Mathematics Student Teachers and Interns. She currently chairs the RTP committee for the Mathematics Department.
Dr. Walker's academic interests center on mathematics education, with a focus on training teachers to effectively teach diverse students and promoting equitable access for students of color and low-income students in concurrent enrollment, particularly quantitative literacy courses. She is Co-Principal Investigator on a $1.2 million NSF-funded Robert Noyce Teaching Scholarship program and principal investigator for a $100,000 Senate Bill 196-funded program addressing these equity goals. Walker founded and was Editor in Chief from 2008 to 2020 of the Utah Mathematics Teacher, the annual online journal of the Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Her key publications include "Teaching Culturally Diverse Students in a Mathematics Classroom: Ideas Composed from a Summary of the Current Literature" (Utah Mathematics Teacher, Winter 2024, vol. 16) and "UCTM Common Denominator" (2025). She contributed as Mathematical Foundation Lead Writer for utahmiddleschoolmath.org in 2013. Among her presentations are talks on Utah Math Core Standards Revision at UVU (2025) and training math teachers for diverse students at UAMTE (2024). Walker has received the Board of Trustees Award of Excellence (2020), Outstanding Service award from AMTE (2014) as Chair of the Affiliate Connections Committee, Higher Education Academy Fellowship, UVSC Teacher of the Year School of Science and Health (1996–1997), and UVSC Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Service to Students (1997), among other recognitions.
