Chris Collins serves as a Clinical Senior Lecturer with the University of Otago School of Medicine. He is a Psychiatrist of Old Age with 32 years of experience working for the Canterbury District Health Board and overseas. Collins is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP). He is a member of the International Psychogeriatric Association and has previously served on the committee of Alzheimers New Zealand.
Collins has contributed to research in neuropsychiatry and geriatric psychiatry. His publications include 'Bipolar affective disorder, type II, apparently precipitated by donepezil: a case report' published in 2011, 'Clozapine-induced pneumonitis' in 2013, and 'Acute tryptophan depletion and Lewy body dementias' in 2016, co-authored with colleagues from the Department of Psychological Medicine and other departments at the University of Otago. He participated in the Cognitive Impairment Assessment Review Working Group, which recommended the M-ACE as a preferred tool for cognitive screening in primary care for dementia diagnosis in New Zealand.
