About Chhavi

Dr. Chhavi Tiwari serves as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Plant Science at the Shri Vaishnav Institute of Agriculture, Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She obtained her Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Banaras Hindu University in 2013. Her academic and professional journey includes a tenure as Research Associate at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University from 2012 to 2016. Since joining Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya, she progressed from Assistant Professor (2018-2022) to Associate Professor in 2022, and has been Head of the Department since 2022. Specializing in molecular plant breeding and genetics and plant breeding, Dr. Tiwari focuses her expertise on advancing agricultural sciences through genetic improvements in crops.

Dr. Tiwari has edited notable books including 'Current Trends in Genetics and Plant Breeding (Volume 1)' (ISBN: 978-93-93992-50-5) and 'Novel Trends in Agriculture (Volume 1)' in collaboration with Dr. Narendra Chouhan. Her research contributions encompass key publications such as 'Exploring the possibility of obtaining terminal heat tolerance in a doubled haploid population of spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in the eastern Gangetic plains' (Field Crops Research, 2012), 'Inheritable evaluation of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes' (2026), 'Recent Advances for Multiple Disease Resistance in Major Solanaceous Vegetable Crops' (2025), and 'Assessment of morphological and biochemical traits for the identification of heat tolerant wheat genotypes' (2025). She has received the Excellence in Research Award (2023) from the Hindustan Agricultural Research Welfare Society in collaboration with Niti Aayog and the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Government of India; Super Woman in Wheat (2015) from the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT), Mexico; Jeanie Borlaug Laube Women in Triticum Award (2014) from the Borlaug Global Rust Initiative, Cornell University, USA; and Cereal System Initiative for South Asia (CSISA) Research Fellowship (2010) from CIMMYT, Mexico. A lifetime member of the Indian Society of Agroforestry (2020) and the Indian Science Congress Association (2019), she coordinated the international conference Vaksana 2020 on 'Food Security through Sustainable Agriculture' and co-coordinated Vaksana 2019 on 'Production Technology of Kharif Crops'. Her work underscores her impact in plant breeding and sustainable agriculture.
