She supervises PhD students and contributes to advancing clinical academic training in respiratory medicine.

Bolton's influential publications include 'Challenges of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in rural Nepal' (The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, 2019, with KC B, Koju R, Hall IP), 'Predicting fracture risk in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a UK-based population-based cohort study' (BMJ Open, 2019, with Akyea RK, McKeever TM, Gibson J, Scullion JE), 'Management of Fracture Risk in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Building a UK Consensus Through Healthcare Professional and Patient Engagement' (International Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, 2020, with Gupta A et al.), 'Patient-reported outcome measures in the recovery of adults hospitalised with community-acquired pneumonia: a systematic review' (European Respiratory Journal, 2019, with Pick HJ, Lim WS, McKeever TM), and 'Socioeconomic deprivation and the outcome of pulmonary rehabilitation in England and Wales' (Thorax, 2017, with Steiner MC et al.). Her work impacts clinical practice in pulmonary rehabilitation, COPD management, exacerbation toolkits, fall and fracture risks, and global health initiatives addressing lung disease in low-resource settings.
