About Charles

Charles Wheelan is Clinical Professor of Business Administration and Faculty Director of the Center for Business, Government & Society at Dartmouth College's Tuck School of Business in the Business & Economics faculty. He holds an AB from Dartmouth College, an MPA from Princeton University, and a PhD from the University of Chicago. Wheelan joined the Dartmouth faculty full-time in June 2012 as a senior lecturer and policy fellow at the Rockefeller Center for Public Policy before transitioning to the Tuck School of Business. He teaches courses on business and public policy, including The Future of Capitalism and contributions to Tuck Dialogues. His career also includes founding and chairing Unite America, a bipartisan movement to reform electoral processes for more representative government.

Wheelan's research specializations and academic interests focus on public policy, accessible economics, accessible statistics, strategic communication, and political reform. He is the author of several influential books, including Naked Economics (2002), which was named by Princeton finance professor Burton Malkiel in the Wall Street Journal in 2023 as the best business book of all time; Naked Statistics (2013); Naked Money (2016); and The Centrist Manifesto (2013). Other notable publications are Write for Your Life (2020) and We Came, We Saw, We Left (2021), along with the novel The Rationing (2020). In recognition of his teaching excellence, Wheelan received the Dean of Faculty Teaching Award in 2020. His work has had significant impact in popularizing economic and statistical concepts for broad audiences, bridging academia, business, government, and public discourse through lectures, writings, and policy initiatives at Dartmouth and beyond.
