Professor Caroline Mansfield serves as the Executive Dean of the School of Education at Edith Cowan University. An alumnus of ECU, she completed her Doctor of Philosophy in 2002, Master of Education with a major in Teaching and Learning in 1998, and Graduate Diploma of Education Secondary with a major in Music Education in 1988, all from ECU. Prior to her current role, Mansfield was Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education, Philosophy and Theology at the University of Notre Dame Australia from 2021 to 2022, and Dean of the School of Education there from 2019 to 2020. Between 2005 and 2018, she occupied various teaching, research, and leadership positions at Murdoch University. Before entering higher education, she spent a decade teaching in secondary schools.
Mansfield maintains an international research profile focused on teacher resilience and wellbeing. Her work examines teacher coping self-efficacy, wellbeing amid challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, and strategies to enhance resilience among pre-service and practicing teachers through online interventions and resources. She has led several externally funded research projects, with findings implemented in professional learning initiatives across Australia and internationally. Notable publications include 'Thriving not just surviving: A review of research on teacher resilience' (2011, Educational Research Review), 'Building resilience in teacher education: An evidenced informed framework' (2016, Teaching and Teacher Education), 'Don’t sweat the small stuff: Understanding teacher resilience at the chalkface' (2012, Teaching and Teacher Education), 'Teacher wellbeing and resilience: Towards an integrative model' (2021, Educational Research), and the edited volume 'Cultivating Teacher Resilience: International Approaches, Applications and Impact' (2021, Springer). In recognition of her contributions, she received the Australian Learning and Teaching Fellowship in 2016 for leading innovations in higher education curriculum and student experience. On November 14, 2024, she was awarded the ACEL WA Pre-eminent Educational Leader Award by the WA Minister for Education, the first such honor given to a Dean of Education, for her leadership in shaping educational practices, teacher training, and addressing issues like inclusivity and professional learning. Mansfield represents Western Australian Deans of Education on the Australian Council of Deans of Education Board.
