About Caroline

Dr. Caroline Mallory, PhD, RN, serves as Professor Emeritus and former Interim Dean at the Mennonite College of Nursing, Illinois State University. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her PhD in nursing science, with a minor in women’s studies, from Indiana University. She completed postdoctoral research training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A registered nurse with extensive experience in higher education administration and teaching, Dr. Mallory previously held the position of Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Program Coordinator at the Mennonite College of Nursing. From 2017 to 2025, she was Dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Indiana State University, where she led operational, budgetary, and advancement efforts for more than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 76 full-time faculty, and 47 full-time staff across 12 disciplines and 24 degree programs. In this role, she facilitated over $2.5 million in private and corporate donations, secured $4.89 million in external funding, and played a key part in the accreditation of programs including physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, nursing, and social work. In July 2025, Dr. Mallory returned to Illinois State University to serve a one-year term as Interim Dean of the Mennonite College of Nursing.

Dr. Mallory’s research in HIV prevention has received funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Illinois Department of Public Health. She has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and presentations centered on prevention, public health, and women’s health. She is co-author of Statistics for Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing, an introductory statistics textbook for graduate nursing students. Throughout her career, Dr. Mallory has taught in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in both classroom and clinical settings, contributing significantly to nursing education and leadership.
