Dr Caleb Goods is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management and Organisations within the UWA Business School at the University of Western Australia. He earned his PhD from Curtin University in 2013, focusing on greening automotive manufacturing through a case study of Australian political economic influences, international comparisons, and qualitative interviews with political, industry, and union leaders; this work was published as the book Greening Auto Jobs: A Critical Analysis of the Green Job Solution (2014). He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) with Honours (2008) and a Bachelor of Social Science (Sociology and Politics) (2007), both from Curtin University. Following his doctorate, Goods served as a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies at York University, Canada (2015), and as a part-time Research Associate and Tutor at UWA Business School (2013-2014). He joined UWA full-time as a Research Fellow and Sessional Academic in Management and Organisations in 2016, advancing to Senior Lecturer. Additionally, he is a Research Fellow at the UWA Oceans Institute and teaches courses such as EMPL2202 Australian Employment Relations (since 2020) and MGMT1136 Introduction to Management and Organisations (since 2018).
Goods specializes in the future of work, particularly the gig economy and its implications for workers, organizations, and policy, as well as climate change, employment relations, greening workplaces, and just transitions from fossil fuels. His research includes Chief Investigator roles on UWA projects examining Western Australia's fossil fuel energy sector transitions and co-investigator on the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council-funded 'Adapting Canadian Work and Workplace: Canada in International Perspective' (2015-2021). Key publications encompass 'AIRAANZ 2024 presidential address: time for industrial relations to reconcile with the climate crisis' (2025, Labour and Industry), '(Institutionally) working Australia's gig economy into employment: Analysing Menulog's modern award application' (2025, Journal of Industrial Relations), and 'Woeful Pay, But Still, I Enjoy It: Refining Subjective Job Quality in Ride-Share Work' (2026, New Technology, Work and Employment). He contributes editorially, co-authoring 'Reimagining industrial relations: work, care, climate and safety' (2025, Labour and Industry). Goods serves on the Executive Committee of the Industrial Relations Society of Western Australia, the Research and Publications Committee of the Australian Labour and Employment Relations Association, the International Advisory Group for PHASE (Phasing in and phasing out: reworking labour in energy transitions in the North Sea), and the Scientific Committee for the 21st International Labour and Employment Relations Association World Congress. His influence extends to parliamentary submissions (2018-2021), industry reports, and public presentations on sustainability, work, and global production networks.
