Brooke Krause is an Associate Professor of Economics and Business Economics at The College of Wooster, where she joined as Assistant Professor in 2016 and was promoted following tenure in 2022. Prior to Wooster, she served as Instructor at Macalester College in 2015-2016 and at the University of Minnesota in 2011. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (2016), an M.S. in Applied Economics from the same institution (2012), and a B.S. in Economics, International Studies, and Latin American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2007). As a development economist, Krause specializes in gender, health, education, and poverty reduction strategies in developing countries. Her research explores women’s empowerment, knowledge about child health, and risk attitudes in Guatemala; impacts of youth entrepreneurship training programs in East Africa; and food security and gender in Maasai households in Tanzania. She has partnered with international organizations such as USAID, the International Food Policy Research Institute, the Inter-American Development Bank, CARE International, and World Vision.

She has received significant funding, including a $1.5 million USAID Development Innovation Venture Grant (2022) for cost-effective vision programs in Sierra Leone schools, the Gender, Agriculture, and Assets Project (IFPRI, Gates Foundation, USAID, 2015-2020), and Henry Luce III Fund for Distinguished Scholarship Awards (2018, 2021). Krause teaches courses such as Econometrics, International Economic Development, Economics of Global Health, and Intermediate Macroeconomics. She has advised Independent Study projects presented at conferences including the Eastern Economic Association and Cleveland Federal Reserve’s Economic Scholars Program. Her service includes the Presidential Search Committee (2022-2023), Global & International Studies Curriculum Committee (2017-2024), Faculty Research & Development Committee (2023-2024), and Faculty Advisory Board for the Cleveland Federal Reserve Economics Scholars Program.
